Structural Integration vs. Rolfing

Dr. Ida P. Rolf

Thomas Myers

Dr. Ida P. Rolf, a biochemist, found that she could achieve changes in posture and structure by manipulating the body's connective tissue (fascia). As the originator of this work she settled on the name Structural Integration, and started a school,The Rolf Institute. Thus you have a proper name Structural Integration and Rolfing® which is trademarked and reserved for practitioners who have graduated from the Rolf Institute®. There are a number of Structural Integration schools around the world all based on Ida Rolf's work. I have studied Kinesis Myofascial Inetgration (KMI) which is based on Dr. Ida Rolf’s work, and was developed by Advanced Rolfer, Anatomist and Author of Anatomy Trains®-Thomas Myers. Tom studied under Dr. Ida P Rolf and was an instructor at the Rolf Institute. Tom has been doing SI for over 30 years and follows Ida Rolf"s 10 series recipe very closely, but KMI adds 2 more sessions to the 10 series. After many years of dissections and fascial research, Tom has taken Ida’s original recipe and developed KMI. KMI is a holistic approach to Structural Integration which uses advanced myofascial techniques to remove restrictions in the fascial system and involves movement re-education to restore function to our whole structure.
